A fairly common chronic condition that afflicts people is rheumatoid arthritis (RA); a form of chronic joint inflammation that can have major impact on quality of life. The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, but it has a significant autoimmune component. This is how it differs starkly from the much more common osteoarthritis, which is more of a “wear-and-tear” form of arthritis that results from mechanical use of joints over a long and active life. Rheumatoid arthritis not only affects the joints, but also presents with systemic inflammatory symptoms.

Vertigo is the feeling that your surroundings are moving when in reality they are still. Symptoms include feeling off-balance or feeling like the room is spinning. If it’s severe, there may be nausea and vomiting associated with it, and there could be an increased risk of falling. Vertigo can last for a few minutes or even days. Vertigo needs to be differentiated from feeling light-headed, which is usually due to a lack of circulation to the brain or due to low blood pressure. Feeling light-headed can also cause dizziness, but it is treated differently (it is suggested you lie down, that way you help the blood get back to your brain).

Aging is not really about how long someone has been alive, but more about the decline in physical ability and health that tends to occur once a person reaches later life. Aging involves a variety of factors—including our genes, our environment, and infections with harmful viruses and bacteria. These factors—genetic, environmental, and biological—can overlap and cause us to begin the aging process, called “senescence,” which goes all the way down to the cellular level.

?>Confusion about the harmful and beneficial health effects of fats abounds. Low-fat, no-fat, good fat… Where does the truth in all this really lie? As you might suspect, the answer is more complex than the no-fat/low-fat proponents would have you believe. Fats form the lipid membrane that surrounds each cell in your body, and the relative proportions of different fats present in the membrane plays a critical role in normal cell functions. In this article, we explore the different kinds of dietary fats, common myths associated with them, and the ideal fats to consume through diet and/or supplementation.18 Oct 19According to Statistics Canada, 1 in 10 individuals between the ages of 12 and 44 experience chronic pain. Once traditional medicine has been helpful in the acute-pain stage (e.g. first aid, over-the-counter pain killers, heat/ice, etc.), modern medicine may leave individuals feeling lost when it comes to long-term management and reduction of chronic pain.
